(North, Central & South America)

Americas/RVSM course is comprised of 7 modules for a total of 60 minutes of  instruction. The cost of the course is $195 per person. Upon completion of the course the student will receive a certificate and training course outline. 


The Americas/RVSM/CPDLC course is designed for operators who fly in the North, Central and South America regions and would like to review or better understand the procedures and idiosyncrasies of each region, to include RVSM and CPDLC procedures.

This course satisfies the IS-BAO training requirements for PBN, RVSM, CPDLC, & ADS-B (IS-BAO 13.2.11).  This course does NOT satisfy the training requirements for NAT HLA or Pacific operations.

Students completing this course will meet the following course objectives:

  • Understand the international operating environment of North, Central, South America and the Caribbean to include the WATRS airspace.
  • Define the normal and abnormal RVSM operating procedures.
  • Understand and have the required knowledge to properly utilize the CPDLC system both in the USA and elsewhere.
  • Understand and define the altimetry procedures as it is used in various countries in the region.
  • Understand the various requirements for Civil Aviation Letters of Authorization (LOAs).
  • Understand the applicable U.S. Customs rules and procedures.
  • Understand and be able to apply the contingency procedures used in the region.

Gus Ortiz

Gus has 3 decades of experience in business aviation as auditor, instructor, examiner and international captain including assisting multiple operators with their first oceanic crossings. Gus worked at FlightSafety International as a Hawker & Gulfstream instructor and examiner for over 10 years and is typed in the BE-300, HS-125, G-150 & G-280. Gus been an active international captain for over 15 years and is current in the Gulfstream G-280, which he actively flies as a contract pilot. Gus has been an IS-BAO auditor since 2011, and has conducted over 70 IS-BAO audits to date for part 91 and part 135 operators as well as a safety manager for 2 corporate flight departments and worked as an aviation safety consultant.
