This course has been developed to help operators fly safely and confidently in the international oceanic airspace as well as the various type of special-use airspace found worldwide.  This course satisfies the IS-BAO, ICAO and FAA training requirements for PBN, HLA, RVSM, & ADS-B. This is recurrent training and assumes the student has taken prior international operations training or has prior international operations experience. 

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the international operating environment of the North Atlantic and Pacific oceans
  • Understand and be able to apply the contingency procedures used in the oceanic airspace
  • Receive a review of the operating environment in Europe, Russia and China
  • Define the normal and abnormal RVSM operating procedures.
  • Understand and define the altimetry procedures used in various regions around the world
  • Understand the various requirements for Civil Aviation Letters of Authorization (LOAs)

Gus Ortiz

Gus has 3 decades of experience in business aviation as auditor, instructor, examiner and international captain including assisting multiple operators with their first oceanic crossings. Gus worked at FlightSafety International as a Hawker & Gulfstream instructor and examiner for over 10 years and is typed in the BE-300, HS-125, G-150 & G-280. Gus been an active international captain for over 15 years and is current in the Gulfstream G-280, which he actively flies as a contract pilot. Gus has been an IS-BAO auditor since 2011, and has conducted over 70 IS-BAO audits to date for part 91 and part 135 operators as well as a safety manager for 2 corporate flight departments and worked as an aviation safety consultant.

  • Why is this course shorter than others being offered?

    This course covers the FAA-required items for a recurrent course. The course does not include discretionary or additional information. Additionally, you'll see that the course is covered at a very fast-paced rhythm. 120 minutes is the video play time, but in reality, the course will take additional time by the time you take breaks and/or replay information as desired.

  • What device can I use for the distance learning course?

    You will access your purchased course via a website, so any device with a reliable internet connection that allows for video viewing and ability to take an electronic test will be adequate.

  • Can my company enroll multiple employees?
